Well it didn't take very long into my political career (about three days) to get negative attacks. Most of them distortions of course. My opposition and I had agreed that we would each run our own races and then support whoever wins. I guess that isn't true anymore clearly.
I have no intention of going negative. I have long thought ill of people who did negative attacks in politics instead of just sticking to the issues. So I will refrain from anything but the cursory response in relation to clearing any misconceptions.
My opponent and I had an agreement, but that was broken almost immediately after I filed.
The first attacks: that I was getting paid to run. That, of course, is absurd. I was going to apply for money from free market PACs that only support state candidates and above, but that is not getting paid. The truth of the matter is that both of my primary opponents were hand picked by Raleigh bureaucrats to run. I chose to run because I was worried about the loss of freedom (economic and individual) and the abandonment of the Constitutions and I want to make sure that my son has a good life in a great country, so I want to make sure the government doesn't ruin that. I am representing We The People, they are representing Raleigh bureaucrats.
My opponent admits to being "selected" to run.
The second attack: criticism of me because I support a particular Presidential candidate. This is the primary, that's the point of a primary, to select the Presidential candidate. The hypocritical thing is that she has said that that particular candidate is the most conservative of the bunch. She supports him but doesn't have the courage to declare it. If she doesn't have the courage to stand up for a belief like defending conservatism, how can you expect her to have the courage to stand up when political pressure is coming to bare? Party first or principles first?
The third attack: Half of her website (until the last day or so) was basically an attack ad on me. She didn't stand for much, except to point out my flaws. Well I do have flaws. If you were looking for a perfect man, I am not it. I'm as flawed as the next man, but from what I can tell, there was only one perfect man.
Her website starts out by saying I'm a political newcomer. I'm not sure what she means by that. I've been studying politics my entire life. I haven't ran for any office, but I lived the consequences of politics in battle. If somehow it is more noble to be a politician than a warrior, then I missed the memo.
Then she was "surprised" when I decided to run against her candidacy. I had announced at our tactical planning meeting (which she was organizing) that I was intending to run and was just going to get a committee together before I announced. She looked me straight in the eye when I said and said nothing. Just a couple months before she had said she would never run for anything. No, it was her candidacy running against mine. If she had mentioned something at that tactical meeting when I said that I was intending to do so, then we wouldn't be in this position. But she didn't. She had been encouraging me to run for some time and then when I do, she runs against me.
I filed as a Republican. I'm the only life-long Republican. I stated on my website (not filed) that I am a classical liberal. Fortunately, most of my constituents will be able to realize what that means is modern conservatism even though she tried to lead them astray and say that I said I was a liberal. For those that don't understand the classical liberal philosophy (that would be what our founders practiced) please see this post about it.
My voting record is slim because I was deployed for half of the absent years and serving in the military for the other. The modern military isn't like just having a cushy job in the military industrial complex. Soldiers work. They sleep in the woods in the dirt and they work 24/7 when they go away. There isn't time for the luxuries of going to vote. The Primaries have fallen during our Annual Training. Of course, my opponent has never actually been in the military so she cannot possibly understand the restraints that modern military service provides. It isn't just a job.
My experience depth is narrow? Yes, my only elected position has been Precinct Vice-Chair. Because I'm not a politician. I'm a citizen-soldier who is concerned. What experience do I need? I'm related to three American Presidents and intimately studied them. I've read thousands of books about history, politics, warfare and humanity. I went to the United States Military Academy and combat in Iraq. I have gone on missions in three continents, including right here in America during national emergencies. I've crawled into rushing waters to help get trapped citizens out of their house as it was washing away. What more experience do I need? Breaking my word? That's political experience I'll pass on thanks.
I'm a one issue candidate? Well if freedom is that issue, that would be true, but economic freedom is paramount to individual freedom. I would think that as someone who started the OBX TEA Party that she would be concerned about economic freedom as well, but apparently not.
On her website she is claiming that I am not the Dare County Republican Party Electioneering Chair. That's interesting because she is the one who wrote it down on at our tactical meeting on the tactical planning document when the group asked me to do it when no one previously volunteered. Of course, she also didn't remember at that meeting that I had let them know that I was running for State House. So I imagine her memory is rather selective at that time anyway. But since all this has come down, I will indeed, not be the Electioneering Chair any longer.
My candidacy threatening to split the Dare County vote? Obviously it is my fault that she got "selected" by the bureaucrats. There are three people in this primary. Two of them got selected by the the bureaucrats. I will be the only one selected by the people. And I've talked to quite a lot of them. Hundreds at this point face to face. It will be her candidacy that will split the Dare County vote, not mine. But you need not fear, I've been working for weeks on much more than just looking at my opponents linked in account. The conservative voters and those who respect liberty and the Constitution will be out there and we'll make a very strong showing.
Flexing my muscles? Once again back to politicking. Young people aren't here to politic. Young people are here because the generations before have left us a large steaming mess and we don't want their mess anymore. That isn't flexing muscle, it is protecting the Constitution and... yes, economic freedom.
She removed the "stop whining" page aimed at me finally. I guess that me asking for the negativity to stop was just too much "whining". When I make agreements with people, I expect them to keep them, thus when my opponent broke her agreement and honor, I was willing to forgive as long as it discontinued. Apparently, it will not be discontinued, but believe me this article is the last you will hear from me about it.
The choice before the voters is clear in the Republican primary:
- a tax and spend democrat switching parties to take advantage of the Republican majority
- a former democrat who started the OBX Tea Party but seems to have forgotten her fiscal conservatism whenever it is politically expedient to attack a true conservative
- or the only life-long Republican, a Constitutional Conservative, the only veteran, and the only candidate that won't back down from his principles just to get back slaps from the bureaucrats in Raleigh.
I understand that politics takes persuasion, influence, negotiation and an ability to listen, but if you are willing to fold on your principles before you even get elected, how on earth can we expect you to stand up for them when the real pressure starts?
Negative campaigning isn't necessary. If you are the better candidate and have better positions on issues then you'll convince people and win. No need to attack people. I hope this defense will be the last I hear about it. I have little faith though that her true colors have become unfurled and will not be drawn back up again. I hope I am wrong.
